Show content guide

It’s your show and I’m not the king of underground electronic music radio, but here’s what I think makes for a really good episode.

Introduce yourself and the show

It really helps listeners to feel an extra bit of connection to you and your show if you introduce yourself at the start. Literally just mentioning your name and the show title somewhere near the start is all that’s needed.

Introduce the music

Our listeners are interested with what you’re playing and want to know who the artists are and what the tracks are called. We’ll always have a track list for each show in the website (which is good to mention) but it’s a bonus to say what you’re playing s as you go. Sometimes you might just say ‘This is X by Y’ but when you’re playing something you have a connection to, tell the listeners. Imagine you’re talking to an interested friend. If you’ve seen the artist live, say that. If the album got you through a stressful time that might be nice to share. It can be anything really but it’s another way to build connection with your audience.

Wrap up at the end

As with introducing yourself at the start it’s great to remind people who and what they’ve been listening to. It’s great to encourage listeners to follow Audio Interface on Mixcloud to hear about new shows as they come out.

Let artists know you’ve played them

Our shows are niche so it really helps if people post about them on social media. One of the easiest ways for that to happen is to tag the artists in when you post a link to the show.

Even better is if you can let artists know in advance of the show coming out by sending a message through Bandcamp if they’re on that platform. If they respond that’s a good sign they’ll be more engaged when the show comes out. It also means we can send them an email with links to the show.

Getting permission is a requirement for the show to be included on the podcast feed so this is a good time to request that too. I do this before recording a show and only include tracks which I’ve already received permission for.
